RE: MINORITY IN PARLIAMENT DEMANDS IMMEDIATE FORENSIC AUDIT INTO THE ACCOUNTS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE GHANA NATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION FOLLOWING THE VULGAR OPULENCE AND OBSCENE VOTE BUYING BY ITS BOARD CHAIRMAN, MR. FREDDIE BLAY AT THE JUST ENDED NPP DELEGATES CONGRESS

Our attention has been drawn to a statement by the Minority in Parliament signed by Hon. Adam Mutawakiliu (MP), Ranking Member, Mines and Energy that seems to suggest that the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) supported the campaign of Mr. Freddie Blay (Board Chairman of the Corporation) and current National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.

We also take note of the reference made to the 2018 GNPC Work Programme, which the statement referred to as “problematic”, as well as the .
We wish to respond as follows:

- GNPC did not in any way support or play any role in Mr. Freddie Blay’s campaign. The Corporation has a robust financial system that will not allow any official to approve or receive funds to support programmes not set out in its Work Programme and Budget that is approved by Parliament.

- The GNPC 2018 Work Programme that the Minority’s statement described as “problematic” was presented to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy, and approved unanimously by Parliament, after extensive debate on the 22nd of March 2018.  

- Our records are there for verification anytime by anyone. We wish to let the public know that GNPC’s financial records are audited by Ernst and Young, one of the “Big Four” international auditing firms, which adheres to very high standards.
