Yesterday, 4th March, GNPC joined the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital to commission an ultra-modern MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) suite. The state-of-the-art facility is co-sponsored by a US-based philanthropic couple, Wayne and Claire Heyland and GNPC to support quality orthopedic healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The MRI will enhance the hospital’s imaging capability to diagnose and treat various musculoskeletal conditions. Equipped with a CT scanner and other powerful- X-ray machines, the MRI will complement the leading orthopedic hospital’s array of radiological equipment.
As part of the hospital’s agreement with GNPC, the hospital will treat a number of needy patients with severe orthopedic conditions over the next five years in GNPC’s areas of operation. This began with the successful treatment of six (6) patients with complex spine problems in 2018, followed by communityorthopedic screening in the Shama District of the Western in January, 2019.
Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Dr. K.K. Sarpong said “We have identified investments in the area of health, especially boosting the capacity of specialized health facilities to lessen the burden imposed on them. It is about time we took into serious account the importance of ergonomics – or how the workplace and equipment can best be designed for comfort and safety even as we optimize productivity.
These alone are however, not enough, because we must all make a conscious effort to be responsible for our posturing, as well as the twists and turns we subject our bodies to on a daily basis.”
Founder and CEO of FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital, Prof Emeritus OhenebaBoachie-Adjei, in his remarks, said, “We are very grateful to GNPC and the Heylands for coming together to help FOCOS acquire an MRI machine to provide the highest quality orthopedic care to the underserved in our society.
