A high powered delegation from the Ghana's Fastest Human team has called on President Akufo Addo to throw more light on how the program can take the country's athletics to the next level.
The Ghana's Fastest Human Sprinting Program was introduced to the President during a courtesy call paid on him by the Organizers. They were accompanied by some of Ghana's past athletics greats, 1962 & 1970 Commonwealth Gold Medalist Mike Ahey, 1966 Commonwealth games Gold Medalist Oko Addy and 1974 Commonwealth games Bronze medalist Ohene Karikari. Other athletes that went to see the President are the future stars, athletes from the GNPC Speedsters Club in association with Adidas.
President Akufo – Addo was very happy with the PPP exercise exhibited with the program and said he was from the era when Ghana ruled world athletics. He went on to talk about attending school with Oko Addy and later on following his exploits on the international tracks. Mike Ahey, the President said, was a living legend and should be remembered as such while we still have him around. The President went on to pledge his support for the program and said he would announce steps he is taking to help.
The Ghana's Fastest Human Athletics Program is an Athletic Sprinting Program designed to get Ghana winning Internationally again in Athletics, with a 7 – year focus on sprints, Ghana's proven strength in athletics, from 2013 to 2020.
The Program organizes 100-meter competitions ALL over Ghana for males and females in the following categories, Under 10, Under 15, Under 18 and seniors.
The Ultimate Prize at the end is that the best of the best is selected into the GNPC Speedsters Club in association with Adidas, where they pay for their training, nutrition and everything else for a whole year. To date, there are 3 Sprinters in the Speedsters Club, 15 year old Gifty Oku, the fastest in all of Ghana in her age category, 18 year old Ida Mensah, the fastest local lady in Ghana for 2016 and 24 year old Desmond Aryee, the fastest University student in ALL of Africa for 2016. They are Sponsored by GNPC and Adidas Ghana, and supported by Red Sea Maritime, Pippas Gym and Moringa KING!
