The Eighth Board of Directors of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) was inaugurated Thursday 18th May, 2017, after members had taken their oaths of Office and Secrecy.
The seven-member Board is chaired by Mr. Freddie Blay, with Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong, GNPC Chief Executive Officer as a member. The other members are: Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, Nana Adjoa Hackman, Mr.Kwabena Kwakye, Prof. J.S. Nabila and Mr Yaw Kyei.
Minister for Energy Mr. Boakye Agyarko handed the Board members their staff of office, after they had taken their oaths at the Conference Room of the ministry in Accra.
Hon. Agyarko reminded members of the arduous task ahead of them saying, “You are about to carry on your shoulders a difficult task for this nation.”
He advised the Board to lead GNPC to “adopt the posture of aggressive exploration to add to our oil reserves”, by keeping their foot on the accelerator.
“Your role in the governance system is to set the broad strategic vision and tone for GNPC,” he told the board urging members to work for the benefits to touch the lives of Ghanaians of today and future generations.
Hon. Agyarko reminded members also of the high expectations and volatility of the industry.
Mr. Blay, on behalf of the Board, expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the honour done them and assured they will not disappoint him and the people of Ghana.
Present at the ceremony were two deputy ministers of Energy, Hon. Owuraku Aidoo and Joseph Cudjoe, both members of parliament, Professor Thomas M. Akabzaa, Chief Director and Mrs. Anita Lokko, Lawyer at the Ministry among others.
