Three finalists in the 2017 GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Humanheld in September this year,have been selected into the 2017/2018GNPC Speedsters Club, where they will be camped, helped with school, given the best nutrition, have access to a muscle trigger specialist and sports psychologist to improve their skills and development.
The three, Mary Boakye, Samuel Asare and Edwin Gadayi were out-doored at a press briefing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last Friday, November 24, attended by the Adumhene, representing the Asantehene, Headline Sponsor Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Ashanti Regional Sports Director and technical handlers.
A technical team that monitored the competitions selected the three from a field of 250 sprinters who made it to the final of finals, out of over 7,300 sprinters that participated in the nationwide championship that started in March and ended in September. The three were introduced by Reks Brobby, the brain behind Ghana’s Fastest Human.
1. Mary Boakye, nicknamed Jetter, after US Olympic gold medalist, Carmelita Jetter, based on her amazing fast start and running style,is a past student of Kumasi Anglican SHS, where she excelled in the 100 and 200 meters events. She came in second at the final of finals of the 2017 GNPC Ghana's Fastest Human and is poised to maximise the benefits the Club offers.She was born on 13th August, 2000.
2. Samuel Asare, is a final year student at Prempeh College in Kumasi, where he is the current Sports Prefect. He is the first person to have won back-to-back titles as Ghana's Fastest Human Under-18for two years in a row (i.e. 2016 & 2017). He was born on 31st December, 1999.
3. Edwin Gadayi is a 2nd year student at T. I. Ahamadiya SHS, and is the current fastest human at the 2017 Ashanti regional Super Zonal Athletics Championships. He came in second to Asare at this year's GNPC Under 18 final of finals, even though he had beaten Asare earlier on at the National Regional SHS championship.
The Speedsters will be coached by Coach Anselm Nyavedzie aka, Mourinho and are camped right by the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi. Tutors have also been found for them and Dr. Charles Kwabena Adu Poku will be their physician.
A message delivered on behalf of the GNPC management, called on the speedsters to be disciplined and follow instructions of their handlers in order to get maximum benefits from the one-year residential programmeand become worthy ambassadors.
The GNPC Speedsters Club was set up by GNPC in collaboration with Ghana’s Fastest Human, to physically, nutritionally and psychologically develop the best talents unearthed at the annual GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human championship.

One of the three pioneer in-mates of the 2016/2017 GNPC Speedsters Club, Desmond Aryee, emerged the fastest sprinter at the 2017 finals.
