The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, this morning launched the 2019 edition of GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human, at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium in Accra.
In a speech,the Vice President commended the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Headline Sponsor, and the other sponsors of the annual national sprint championship, which is in its 7th year.  He pledged government’s continued support for the project, which is a successful example of a public-privatepartnership (PPP) initiative, with the national oil company as Headline and Clothing sponsor.

Dr. K. K. Sarpong, CEO of GNPC said, “We were motivated by the principal objective of the project, which is to unearth talents and nurture them to represent Ghana at the 2020 Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo. 
“Since we started partnering GFH competitions in 2014, we have seen the progress made by athletes who participated in these championships.

CEO of the Ghana’s Fastest Human (GFH) project, Reks Brobby, expressed appreciation to the Presidency, saying, “We are grateful that His Excellency, President Akufo-Addo, honoured us by launching the 2017 edition, in his first year in office. Today, we are once again honoured, to have H.E. the Vice President here to do us the honours. Thank you.

“We are encouraged by the results that this project has achieved so far, and committed towork towards ensuring that the boost that this presidential touch has added to this year’s event makes it more memorable.  And to our sponsors, led by GNPC, we say ‘Thank you.”

The maiden edition of the Ghana’s Fastest Human project was held in 2013.  The championship has produced many talents, some of who have represented and won medals for the country at the internationallevel.
The annual championships are held across the country, with the regions grouped into zones.  The first of the 2019 Championship will be held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium,Tamale on 27th April, 2019 with the grand finale scheduled for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasion 14th September, 2019.

GNPC sponsors also the GNPC Speedsters Club, which comprises of a select group of talented sprinters the championship produces, and are put on a one-year residential training programme.
