The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Headline Sponsor of GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human, 2016 has called on the finalists in this year’s sprint competition to aim for the ultimate prize of making it into the GNPC Speedsters’ Club.
Ahead of the finals of the annual sprint competition which comes off at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, September10th, Alexander Kofi-Mensah Mould, Acting Chief Executive of GNPC has sent a goodwill message to the contestants:
“I encourage you all not just to aim at winning your age category races but, to put in the extra efforts to merit a place in the GNPC Speedsters’ Club, which we are sponsoring to develop the best amongst you to become world-class athletes to represent Ghana in athletic competitions at the world stage.”
He congratulated all the 160 finalists (80 males, 80 females) for making it to that level of the competition.
“As we congratulate the organisers of the Ghana’s Fastest Human, and call on the general public to lend its support by going to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium Saturday afternoon to cheer on the athletes to deliver their best,” Mr. Mould added.
GNPC has set up the GNPC Speedsters’ Club, for the top four (two males, two females) sprinters in the finals to undertake a one year residential training programme under its sponsorship.
Ghana’s Fastest Human is a 7-year programme (2013-2020) which seeks to unearth 100-metres talents that will restore Ghana to its glorious heights in sprint athletics and participate in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Background to GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human, 2016 Finals
GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human, 2016 is the fourth in the seven-year annual athletics competition by Ghana’s Fastest Human, aimed at unearthing sprint talents and developing them to represent Ghana in the 2020 Olympic Games.
The 100-metres competition is held for male and female contestants across age categories of: Under 10, Under 15, Under 18 and Seniors. This year’s 160 finalists were selected from Open competitions held across the country as follows:
May 21, 2016 – Essipon Stadium, Sekondi – Central and Western Regions;
June 18, 2016 – Tamale – Upper East, Upper West, and Northern regions;
July 16, 2016 – Paa Joe Park, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo regions; and
August 13, 2016 - El-Wak Stadium in Accra for Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta regional contestants.
The finals come off Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium – 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.
